(April) Heather Ann Wilson, DPhil, selected to be the eighteenth president of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.

— Dr. James Feiszli, Director of Music at SD Mines, named the 2013 U.S. Professor of the Year for the state of South Dakota by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)

(February) South Dakota School of Mines & Technology accepted as a full member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

(May) Joel Lueken named new Athletics Director.  Lueken was formerly Associate Athletic Director for William Jewell College in Missouri.

(August) Jan Puszynski, PhD, appointed Vice President for Research.  Puszynski joined SD Mines in 1991 as a faculty member.
