Acting Vice President for Finance and Administration
An accomplished professional with progressive experience in finance and accounting, internal audit, and management, David Marshall provides exceptional direction, coordination, and budgetary guidance for the School of Mines. In his role as acting vice president of finance and administration, he manages all fiscal affairs of the university, including developing and executing a multimillion dollar budget, planning and initiating commercial development, developing campus master plans, fostering legislative interactions and constituent relationships, and overseeing campus renovations.
Marshall began his career in cost accounting with ITT North in Tennessee before joining the direct marketing corporation Mega Systems International as a controller and corporate secretary.
During his tenure as director of internal audit of the State of Tennessee’s Department of Human Services, he saved Tennessee taxpayers several hundred thousand dollars and reduced federal and state income taxes by $320,000 while recommending procedures to improve internal controls and operational efficiencies.
Moving to Beverly Hills in 2000, Marshall accepted a position at XIV Karats Ltd., a West Coast conglomerate encompassing retail, software development, media buying and professional athlete marketing. He served as the controller and CFO, overseeing all accounting, finance, and human resource functions.
Before joining the School of Mines community, Marshall also served as the CFO of the Emmanuel Christian Seminary in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he was responsible for accounting, finance, human resources, and ground and maintenance.
As a former adjunct instructor at Northwestern Business College, Davenport College, and the University of Phoenix, Southern California campus, Marshall is uniquely positioned to bring invaluable insight into higher education to the Department of Finance & Administration.
Marshall earned a BS in accounting from Milligan College in Tennessee and an MBA from the Keller Graduate school of Management at DeVry University in Illinois.
