Tiospaye Eligibility - Apply

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a transfer student from a tribal college or university, or a graduate of a reservation high school, or a member of a federally recognized tribe
  • Hold United States citizenship
  • Meet the entrance requirements of SDSMT as a beginning student or as a transfer student as appropriate
  • Declare a major in one of the participating departments
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined by the US Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid (complete the FAFSA form online)

Next, select a major in one of these engineering or science fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Geology/Paleontology
  • Geological Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management 
  • Interdisciplinary Sciences/Atmospheric Science
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Physics

Although there is no deadline to apply for a Tiospaye Scholarship, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible and submut your FAFSA as early as possible. 

If you wish to be considered for the many other scholarships offered at SDSMT, complete your application (including high school transcript, application fee, and ACT/SAT scores) by the first business day in February.
