Camp: Materials, Metallurgy & Forensics

Coordinated by Dr. Michael West
Date: July 14-19
Cost: $975

If you already know what a metallurgical engineer does and what doing a ‘forensic investigation’ entails, then you know how cool this camp will be.

ASM Camp SponsorIn case you do not know about this field of engineering, here are just some of the things you will do this week:

  • Learn about nanomaterials, composites, polymers, metals, and the making of a Samurai Sword
  • Get hands-on with heat treating, blacksmithing, welding, and casting
  • Do materials testing (i.e., impact and tensile strength testing) and materials characterization using an optical and scanning electron microscope
  • Practice forensic engineering by investigating how materials fail

This camp is supported by the ASM Materials Education Foundation with students learning from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology professors.

ASM Materials, Metallurgy, and Forensics Institute will be held July 14-19, 2013.*

Enrollment is limited to 16 students; Register soon!
