Fellowships and Scholarships

Fellowships

A growing number of fellowships from industrial and governmental agency sources are currently available. Eligibility requirements and restrictions are parallel to those for research assistantships. A fellowship award may not always include reduced tuition as a benefit. Pre-registration by continuing students is required to prevent payment delays.
 
Students hoping to be awarded an outside fellowship should:

  • Have at least one research-based experience, for example: NSF REU (http://www.nsf.gov/home/crssprgm/reu/start.htm) or DOE-SULI (http://science.energy.gov/wdts/suli/)
  • Publish or present your research findings.
  • Have at least one “Broader Impact” experience outside of the university setting.
  • Find a School of Mines research mentor. This may mean checking the websites of individual faculty and researchers to see if you have similar interests in their field of research and would be a good match as a student they would support.
