NASA Space Technology Research Fellowships

The Space Technology Program has released its annual call for applications for the NASA Space Technology Research Fellowships. Applications will be accepted from students pursuing or planning to pursue master's or doctoral degrees in relevant space technology disciplines. The fellowship awards, worth as much as $68,000 per year, will coincide with the start of the fall 2013 term.

To date, NASA has awarded these prestigious fellowships to 128 students from 50 universities across 26 states and one U.S. territory. The continuing goal of the fellowships is to provide the nation with a pipeline of highly skilled researchers and technologists to improve U.S. technological competitiveness.

NASA Space Technology Research Grants Program Fellowships

The Space Technology Research Grants Program will accelerate the development of "push" technologies to support the future space science and exploration needs of NASA, other government agencies and the commercial space sector. Innovative efforts with high risk and high payoff will be encouraged. Open to US citizens and permanent residents. Both MS and PhD students are eligible.

Level of Support
$36,000 student stipend, plus allowances for travel to NASA Center for research experience and for tuition and fees.

NASA Graduate Research Fellowships

NASA awards 300 graduate fellowships each year. Fellowships provide up to two years of support for graduate study leading to research-based M.S. degrees and up to three years of support for Ph.D. degrees in the fields typically supported by NASA (science, and engineering).

Level of Support
Total support is $27,000. This amount includes an $20,000 student stipend, a student allowance of $6,000, and a $1,000 allowance for insurance (added to student stipend if not needed). An additional $3,000 allowance is payed to the university. Awards are renewable (up to three years for Ph.D. students and two years for M.S. students) based on satisfactory academic advancement, research progress, and available funding. The award is portable.

Deadlines
Applications are typically due in early February. Students may apply at any point in their graduate studies.
