Family Paleontology

2013 Family Paleontology Field Camp
Come Dig With Us This Summer
At the Museum of Geology

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be a paleontologist? Did you ever want to join a field camp and collect fossils? Join the Museum of Geology on a two-day adventure. Uncover fossils in the field, make a cast you get to take home, and learn how to prepare fossils in our lab.
FamilyPaleo
Who:  Open to the public.  Children must be at least 6 years old.
Dates: July 11-12
Cost:  $150 per person - This includes supplies, handouts, and transportation to the field site.

One day will be spent in the Paleo Lab making a fossil cast you get to take home and a tour of the museum to learn about fossils and geology. The second day will be a field day collecting fossils. Camp participants will be allowed time for supervised collecting during the day, but since all sites are currently under scientific study, we allow no personal collection. All collections will be housed at the museum.

The camp is open to individuals and family groups. Individual or family insurance policies and a waiver of liability completed by an adult will be required for all participants. You may bring along cameras, video equipment, etc.

The field area may be remote. We will drive you to the site where you may be required to walk up to one mile to the site location. This walk may be over rough terrain, so wear appropriate attire and bring a supply of water and snacks. You will eat lunch with museum personnel in the field. Sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, and sunglasses are some of the suggested equipment.

Due to the limited space available at our sites, the number of camp participants in attendance each day may be limited.  Advanced notice and deposit is required.  To register and for more information, contact Samantha Husthoft (see information below).
