PUEBLO, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men’s
golf team closed out the 2014 spring season at the Wolf Pack Invitational at
Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo Colo., on Tuesday. The tournament was originally
scheduled as a 56-hole 2-day event but due to inclement weather, the format was
changed to 36 holes over one day.
The Hardrockers posted some great scores and ended the
tournament in ninth place with 626 strokes (315-311). Colorado Mesa took top
honors with 570, West Texas A&M was one shot back in second with 571 and
Colorado State-Pueblo was a close third with 572.
Individually, Colin Prater of Colorado Mesa won the
tournament, shooting a 10-under 36-hole score of 132. Western Texas A&M’s Ethan
Peterson carded a 135 (-7) for second place and Minkyu Jeon (CCU) and Matt
Porter (CSU-Pueblo) took a share of third place each posting scores of 139.
SD Mines senior Tyler Frick came in with a Top 20 score,
carding a 147 (73-74) and tied for 15th place. Freshman Matt Stiegel
took a share of 45th place after carding a 158 (80-78), freshman
Walker Hoolehan put up a 159 (79-80) for 47th, freshman Korey Pryer
finished in 48th place with a 164 (83-81) and sophomore Doug Sayer
rounded out the day with a 173 (94-79) for 49th place.
