DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men’s
basketball team ran into a very cagey Johnson and Wales squad Saturday
afternoon as the Wildcats surged in the second half to upset the Hardrockers,
The Wildcats held a slim four-point advantage, 40-36 at the
half, but turnovers dictated the second half as JWU outscored the visitors, 54-46.
The Hardrockers shot 52 percent from the field hitting 30-58
shots while JWU made good on 32-57 for 56 percent. The Wildcats converted 36
points off of Hardrocker turnovers and earned 36 points in the paint. SD Mines
had 17 points off of turnovers and 26 points in the paint.
Individually, senior Michael Dietz finished his college
career with a 22-point effort. Fellow senior Lance Kilburn, also playing his
final game, ended Saturday with 20 points. Senior Caleb Shockman finished the
game with 15 points and also ended his
college basketball career.
That ends the Hardrockers 2013-14 season as SD Mines
finishes with a 6-20 overall record.
