Senior tracksters showcased at Hardrocker Multi

RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines track and field teams held the first ever Hardrocker Multi Wednesday and Thursday at O’Harra Field in Rapid City featuring the men’s decathlon (10 events) and the women’s heptathlon (seven events).

The Hardrockers showcased two seniors --- Lillian Temple in the women’s heptathlon and Seth Brotherton in men’s decathlon. Temple broke her own school record tallying a total score of 4,093 points and Brotherton score of 4,757 ranked second all-time in Hardrocker program history.

The women’s heptathlon consists of the 100 meter dash, high jump, shot put, 200 dash, long jump, women’s javelin and 800 run. Temple took first in the long jump (5.18 meters), high jump (1.60 meters) and the 800 run (2 minutes 31.36 second).  

The men’s decathlon is made up of the 100 dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 dash, 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 run. Brotherton, who competed in the decathlon for the first time ever, took first in the 1,500 run (5:01.81).

Day 1 story 

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Day 1 results of the first ever Hardrocker Multi has Black Hills State’s Trisha Koch leading the women’s heptathlon with 2,697 points with teammate Paige Follette in second with 2,586 points and South Dakota Mines senior Lillian Temple close behind in third place with 2,406. The women competed in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 dash Wednesday.

In the men’s decathlon, Alex Anderson of Black Hills State leads after the first day with 3,373 while senior Seth Brotherton, competing in the event for the first time ever, is sitting second with 2,765. The men competed in the 100 dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 dash. 

The Hardrocker Multi concludes Thursday at O’Harra Stadium. The first events start at 10 a.m.
