The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad. Students must have Federal Pell Grant funding to qualify.

Critical Language Scholarship Program

DAAD offers a variety of programs in Germany for students, faculty and staff. 

DAAD - RISE program

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers three internship programs: RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering), RISE professional and RISE in North America. RISE has established itself as an outstanding opportunity to combine serious research with a rewarding study-abroad experience. All three programs are targeted to students from the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences (geology) and related disciplines. RISE undergrads have the opportunity to work on cutting edge research projects at top research institutions (e.g., Max-Planck-Institutes) and universities in Germany. Students are paired with German PhD students in a unique mentoring partnership to ensure immediate integration into hands on lab work and built-in social network with an excellent opportunity to develop new technical skills. RISE participants receive a scholarship to cover living expenses. Online registration and the internship database for RISE and RISE professional normally open in early December. RISE professional is designed for recent graduates, Master's and PhD students, and alumni of the RISE program who are matched with a well-known German company, where they gain insight into the professional applications of science and engineering and develop practical skills. Internships can last from 1.5 to 6 months. Similar to RISE, this new program features a scholarship to cover living expenses. Online registration is currently available and students will receive all necessary information by the end of October, enabling them to access the internship offers submitted by German companies. The application deadline for both programs is normally in January.

IAESTE - United States
IAESTE is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, and it offers a variety of program options around the world. Be sure to check this site out!

Summer Internship Program in Germany (SIP)
(please note that this is a fee-based program) 

SCHOTT Summer Internship Program in Germany

The SCHOTT Summer Internship Program in Germany provides well-compensated work opportunities for US and Canadian students in engineering, physical sciences, IT and business/marketing & PR, at SCHOTT AG (www.schott.com) in Germany. SCHOTT is a world leader in special glass and glass-ceramics for industrial, scientific and consumer applications with over 17,000 employees in more than 36 countries. The SCHOTT Summer Internship Program in Germany will provide participants with valuable work experience, help improve their German language skills, and allow them to experience German culture firsthand. The program runs from late May to mid-August. 

NSF REU in Automotive Technologies (USA, GERMANY)

Virginia Tech (VT) and the Technische Universitaet Darmstadt (TUD) have offered a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) dual international site.  They are working to revive this program.  Please visit the site for details.

Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Program

This program is specific to Germany. It offers post-secondary options as well as scholarships for high school students.

Rosetta Stone is a computer-based language program that has worked for many people around the world learn new languages. 

 SDSM&T has purchased a limited selection of languages and it is free for SDSM&T students, faculty and staff to use.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.

Here are a couple of restrictions:

  1. You need to register with the Ivanhoe International Center to start using the program 
  2. It can be used on-campus or through VPN only.
  3. If someone else is using the same program you want to at the same time, it will not be available until the other person has signed out.

We will send a confirmation email once we have registered you.

This form will help install the program on your computer.  You will need a username and password which is assigned by the Ivanhoe International Center.  Please fill out the registration form to receive your username and password.
