General Information
The Surbeck Center provides recreation, studying, and dining space for our
students, staff, faculty, and guests. Additionally, Surbeck
Center staff is committed to providing
exceptional services and facilities, providing scheduling and event planning services for
the campus and community.
As a facility, the Surbeck Center is intended to support the many
activities of student life, from studying and eating to
hanging out with friends and large entertainment events. As a
complement to student activities, Surbeck Center also provides
space for university meetings and events.
Surbeck Center is an auxiliary of the university. This
means that it does not receive any state funding for operations or
maintenance/repair. A portion of the money needed for
operations and maintenance/repair is appropriated by the SDSM&T
Student Association from the General Activity Fee. Additional
funding is provided through other auxiliaries (the Bookstore,
Dining Services and Residence Life) and through room rental fees
charged to external users.
The Surbeck Center staff serve the university in two main areas – ensuring the student union as a facility is ready and available for
university use and providing scheduling and event planning services
to the on-campus community.
