For Faculty, Staff and students working from remote locations, a Virtual Provider Network (VPN) is available. Users may VPN to SDSM&T from remote locations. So whether you're home or traveling, you can access the SDSM&T network and servers.
To set up the VPN connection, follow these directions:
- Click the network adapter icon on the tray, Click Open Network and Sharing Center
- Choose Set up a new connection or network
- Choose Connect to a workplace, Next
- Choose Use my Internet Connection (VPN)
- Enter techvpn.sdsmt.edu for the Internet address
- Enter SDSMT VPN for the destination name
- Check the "Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later" checkbox, Next
- Enter your user name and password then Create
- The connection is ready to use, Close
To connect, follow these directions:
- Click the network adapter icon on the tray,
- Right-click on the name you gave the connection, in the above case "SDSMT VPN"
- Click Properties
- Enter your user name, password and SDSMT in the domain
- If this is your personal computer, Check the "Save this user name and password..." checkbox
- When the connect link turns to Connected the computer is connected to the SDSM&T public network
- Click Properties
- On the General tab, select Advanced
- On the IP Settings tab, uncheck the "Use default gateway on remote network" checkbox
- Go to the Networking tab and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
- Choose OK on all tabs to save your changes
- Click Connect
