Electrical and Computer Engineering

The mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE), in support of the mission of School of Mines, is to provide computer engineering and electrical engineering students with education that is broadly based in the fundamentals of the profession so that graduates will be able to maintain a high degree of adaptability throughout their professional careers. It is also intended that the students will develop a dedication to the profession, assume leadership roles,  and an ability to maintain professional competency through a program of lifelong learning.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) houses two programs of electrical engineering and computer engineering. Each program has its own unique characteristics, and lead to opportunities for students in terms of a rich theoretical and hands-on experiences tailored to enhance the educational and practical experience of ECE students.

The two programs of Electrical and Computer Engineering encompass four focus areas. Focus areas are defined by the elective courses students take after satisfying required courses. The four focus areas are:

  1. Power Systems and Power Electronics
  2. Communications and Networks
  3. Electromagnetics and antennas
  4. Controls, Robotics, and Computer Vision

The bachelor of science program in electrical engineering and the bachelor of science program in computer engineering are both accredited by the:
