RAPID CITY, S.D. (April 16, 2013) – The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology sorority Alpha Delta Pi is hosting its annual Lion Share Philanthropy event, open to the public, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in the Central High School Commons Area, with all proceeds donated to the Ronald McDonald house – a charity that funds housing for families whose children are hospitalized for an extended period of time.
The event will feature a dance with the band Seven Times Tomorrow live, a silent auction with items donated by area businesses, a cake walk and “Pie an ADPi”, where attendees can pay to throw pies at sorority members.
Cori Christensen, the philanthropy chair and recruitment vice president for Alpha Delta Pi, hopes to double the attendance and donations this year, setting a chapter goal of $1,000. An annual occurrence since the sorority’s establishment in 1986, Alpha Delta Pi’s largest philanthropy event “is an opportunity to help families with expenses and stresses from staying in the hospital and give them the support they need to have somewhere to stay that is home-like and a sanctuary from the stress of their child’s illnesses. It also allows families to bond with each other,” Christensen explains.
