More than 200 volunteers restore Rapid City’s most beloved landmark

RAPID CITY, S.D. (April 28, 2014) – From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, more than 200 volunteers from 35 organizations donated nearly 345 hours to re-tree and clean up one of Rapid City’s most beloved landmarks – Storybook Island – helping to restore the landscape after the devastating October blizzard.

Volunteers from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and city, campus and community organizations planted trees in the park, refurbished the entrance landscaping, replaced fencing, shrubs and plants and cleaned up the debris left by the storm.

Organizations that participated are:

  • South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Hardrocker soccer and women’s basketball teams; Triangle, Delta Sigma Phi, Alpha Chi Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha and Theta Tau fraternities; Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Omega Epsilon sororities; InterFraternity Council; Rotaract Club; Norbeck Uni; Circle K International; American Society of Civil Engineers; American Institute of Chemical Engineers; Veterans Club; Professional Development Institute; Grounds; Sustainability Committee and University Relations
