Release Date Tuesday, October 9, 2012
RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 9, 2012) – The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology will celebrate its M Week homecoming activities this week.

These events were rescheduled following the sudden death of School of Mines President Robert A. Wharton on Sept. 19.

Coronation of the king and queen will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Surbeck Center ballroom, followed by a pep rally and bonfire in the Surbeck Center parking lot.

The annual picnic and M Hill climb will begin at noon Friday, Oct. 12, at Founder’s Park off Omaha Street.

The M Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Birch and Saint Joseph streets, on the School of Mines campus, and will head west on Main Street. At Fourth Street the parade will turn south for a block and then loop back toward campus, heading east on Saint Joseph and ending at O’Harra Stadium. This is the same route the annual Red Ribbon parade will take starting at 11 a.m.

Tailgating activities will occur in the stadium parking lot prior to the 2 p.m. football game against Presentation College. During halftime, some 500 freshmen will follow tradition and run around the football field and form a giant "M."

The Student/Alumni Connection Golf Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Executive Golf Course.
