This Halloween Hardrockers lend a hand to fight hunger
Release Date Monday, October 22, 2012
RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 23, 2012) – With Halloween just around the corner, SDSM&T’s Circle K puts a unique spin on an age-old tradition with its 3rd annual Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods. From 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30, groups of costumed students from fraternities and sororities, athletic teams and other student organizations will go door-to-door in the community asking for canned food donations for Feeding South Dakota.

Last year, the event brought in just under 1 ton of food. This year Circle K hopes to shatter the record, bringing in well over 1 ton, while giving students who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to volunteer, a fun, engaging means of giving back.

Prizes will be awarded to the top teams in the best-dressed and weight categories. Students who pre-register receive an extra 5 pounds added toward their total weight. Businesses that have donated prizes thus far are Philly Ted’s, Carmike Cinemas, Chili’s, Wendy’s, Sam and Louie’s Pizza, Taco Bell, Arby’s, Starbucks and Applebee’s.

Donations may also be dropped off at the Surbeck Center on campus. Please call ahead at (605) 394-2335 on Tuesday, Oct. 30, to donate.
