Roger Opp  - Builder  2007

Roger Opp began his long career at the School of Mines in 1966 as an assistant professor of mathematics. That year he also began serving as the official scorer for basketball games and eventually moved over to the game clock in the late 1970’s and served in the capacity until his retirement in 2003. He served as the Faculty Athletic representative and also as the secretary of the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference for many years and is a member of the SDIC Hall of Fame.

“Service to the students, both academically and athletically was important to me,” said Roger. “Seeing a student in the classroom and then on the playing field allowed me to see both sides of the educational experience.”

Roger’s loyalty to the School of Mines and its students and athletes is a hallmark of his dedication to the university.  He played a very important role as a member of the scoring table and will be remembered for the professional manner he handled his role.
