Rockers fall short in Valley City

VALLEY CITY, N.D. — South Dakota Mines couldn’t overcome a double-digit halftime deficit as the Hardrockers lost 80-67 to Valley City State on Saturday in Dakota Athletic Conference men’s basketball action.

The loss leaves Mines (7-20, 4-9 DAC) in a tie with Dickinson State for sixth place in the conference with one game remaining. The Blue Hawks also lost Saturday, a 74-69 decision to Mayville State.

Robbie Fedor and Brandon Smith led the Hardrockers in scoring with 13 points each. Michael Ross finished with 11 points.

Five Vikings scored in double figures, led by Orlando Anderson’s 17 points. Zac Wolff, Mike Stowman and Mark Klingberg followed with 12 points apiece.

Tyler Macomber closed out with 10 points.

Wolff also snagged 10 rebounds for Valley City State (20-7, 9-4 DAC).

Mines closes out the regular season Wednesday when the Hardrockers head to Spearfish to play rival Black Hills State. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
