Thanks again to all of you who made the first year of our “Championship Club 2002” a great success.  Your membership in the Club helped the Hardrockers Football Program raise over $6400.00 for the fall football season.  It was a great kickoff to an extremely important yearly event that will help bring our program to the next level.  The money has been used this year to help us hire coaches, improve travel & recruiting budget and to supplement our field equipment budget.

The first annual “Championship Club Banquet” in November of 2002 was a great success as well.  What a great way to end the year for our seniors and parents.  I’d like to extend personal thanks once again to Lance Mriden for sharing his experiences with the team.  It really gives a great perspective to our players to see someone who has graduated from the program and enjoy the success that Lance has.  We look forward to continuing to bring great Tech Alums back to our campus year after year for such events.

The 2003 recruiting season is drawing to a close and we feel very good about the incoming class.  It appears that we’ll have a class of fine young men in here to represent our institution well and we look forward to meeting and getting to know their parents as well.

There have been many changes here at Tech in the last few months (and the changes will continue!); the coach’s offices have been refurbished with new carpet, furniture and paint and the area looks very professional now, thanks to the Hardrock Club.  Also, our facilities crew did a great job remodeling the varsity weight room, staff room and basement coaches offices.  What a difference that has made in recruiting and appearance.  Finally, they are beginning the Student Wellness Center project in the next few weeks (as well as the addition of the Hardrock “Hall of Fame” Room).  This is a major project that will total nearly $500,000.00 when it’s all said and done.  The students and athletes here at Tech will really enjoy the new weight room when they return this fall.

I hope you enjoyed the “Championship Club” as much as I did and will consider joining us again this fall.  I really enjoyed sitting down to do the e-mail updates and to choose our players of the week.  The team really gave all they could this past fall and your donations to the “Championship Club” were invaluable.  As always, we look forward to bigger and better things for the fall of 2003!

Yours in football,

Darren M. Soucy
