King Center locker room renovation nearly complete

RAPID CITY --- The renovations of the King Center varsity locker rooms are almost complete on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines.

With the major construction completed this past fall, the men’s basketball team, women’s basketball team and women’s volleyball team received a substantial upgrade, with the addition of new wooden lockers and a private dressing facility.

The project came to be through money donated by former athletes, private contributors and SDSM&T alumni. The goal for the renovations was to raise $50,000 and as the upgrade is nearly complete, the Hardrocker athletic department has almost $40,000 pledged to date and has already collected just over $30,000.

The due date to have all the money pledged and collected is July 1, 2008. The Hardrocker Club and Lady Hardrocker women's basketball coach Barb Felderman have been at the front of the fundraising drive. Hardrocker Athletics Director Hugh Welsh will step in during the next couple of weeks and help the cause by contacting former athletes and alumni in hopes of reaching the goal of $50,000.

“We are hoping we can get our pledges up to $50,000 before July,” Welsh said.

Anybody that would like to help with the project and make a donation can do so by contacting the Hardrock Club at 605-394-2601.
