Lady Hardrockers slip to No. 25 in latest poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- After a very heartbreaking weekend in which the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team not only lost two Dakota Athletic Conference games, the Lady Hardrockers also lost their star All American athlete Melanie Vedvei. On the plus side, the SDM ladies managed to stay in the national sites, earning No. 25 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Hardrockers suffered a tough defeat to Minot State and then fell to a much improved Dickinson State team the following evening. SD Mines has a current record of 16-5 on the year and 4-3 in DAC play which gives them the fourth place in the conference.

SDM will face Dickinson and Minot again this weekend on the road.

The  Dakota Athletic Conference still remains as one of the toughest in the NAIA with four teams owning spots in the Top 25 while another is hanging just on the outside. Dakota State earned the highest ranking this week at No. 12, Black Hills State checks in at 14, Minot State, who is new to the Top 25, came in at 21st and The Hardrockers hold down 25th. Jamestown College is on the outside receiving some votes this week as well.

College of the Ozarks (Mo.) and Northwestern (Iowa) both won their games last week and held onto No. 1 and 2 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Top-25 poll for the sixth straight week.

Ozarks received 13 first place votes and 506 total points and Northwestern earned four first place votes and 497 total points.  No. 3 Morningside (Iowa), No. 4 Bethel (Ind.) and No. 5 Saint Francis (Ind.) rounded out the top-five with 472, 461 and 437 points respectively.  Hastings (Neb.), Davenport (Mich.), Concordia (Neb.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) also held their places from 6-10 respectively from last week.

No. 21 Minot State (N.D.) and No. 22 Daemen (N.Y.) made their season debut in the top-25 while No. 24 Sterling (Kan.) moved back in after dropping out in week four.

The next regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, February 6.
