Mines caps road trip with 83-68 win

 

VALLEY CITY, N.D. — South Dakota School of Mines finished its North Dakota road trip with an 83-67 win over Valley City State in Dakota Athletic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday.

After leading by one at intermission, the Lady Hardrockers broke the game open with a 25-7 run to start the second half.

South Dakota School of Mines and Valley City State played nearly even the rest of the way with the Vikings getting no closer than 12 points.

Bethany Holyoak scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Lady Hardrockers.

Jerika Ihnen followed with 18 points, and Jennie Malone added 16 points for the winners.

Valley City State was led by Lisa Dornacker’s 12 points and Jessica Tykwinski chipped in 11 points.

Mines made 48 percent of its shots compared to 36 percent for the Vikings.

South Dakota School of Mines (18-9, 6-7 DAC) finishes the regular season on the road against rival Black Hills State, and Valley City State (5-21, 0-13 DAC) travels to Jamestown College on Wednesday.
