Lady Hardrockers season ends with playoff loss to Comets

MAYVILLE, N.D. - The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team was outscored 47-22 in the second half of their Dakota Athletic Conference playoff game against Mayville State and lost 83-52 on Sunday.

Mines, which never recovered from  knee injures to seniors Melanie Vedvei and Amber DeWeerd, shot just 6-for-27 (22 percent) in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Bethany Holyoak paced the Hardrockers (18-11) with 19 points. Nicole Martin added 15 and seven rebounds. Vedvei played, but was limited to just one shot attempt.

Mayville's Cassie Leraas had a huge game, draining 8-of-11 3-pointers en route to a game-high 32 points. Former Pine Ridge all-stater Laura Big Crow had eight points and five rebounds for the Comets before fouling out.
