"We are very excited about having Jed in the program. He has a great deal of athletic talent. Jed has played football in the fall and has not competed in cross country. We see some real untapped potential for him in cross country," said Hardrocker Coach Jerry Schafer. 

The civil engineering major brings great academic and athletic skill to the Hardrocker program. Kirkland won the 800 meter and the 1600 meter at the prestigious Stillwater Invitational in Billings, MT, and won his Montana Divisional Championship in the 800 meter and the 1600 meter taking seasons best times of 1:59.52 and 4:34.9 into the 2001 State meet.
