The Big Sky TRIP...

Well, There's not a whole lot I can do to show you the trip right now. Hopefully after some films get developed, I will be able to show you some pictures of the adventure. Until then, here's a brief rundown about how the trip was.

January 3rd: After a long-ass bus ride, the SDSM&T ski/snowboard club finally makes it to The Big Horn Condominiums in Big Sky. Thing are unloaded, unpacked, and a long night of relaxation begins. Lolo's was the main establishment of choice for the night.

January 4th: Not much snow today... Everyone takes the first day fairly easy and plays a lot of rock dodging. It was kind of disappointing that the tram to the top of loan peak was only taking scenic trips up but there wasn't any snow up there anyway. All day long, the snow was pretty choppy and crusty. After the day, hot-tubs were well in order. That night, while relaxing we noticed it was snowing!!! Luckily, my roommate had packed a couple a sleds along with him. The hardcore snow enthusiasts went sledding that night at about 1:00a.m.

January 5th: The night before had left about 6 to 8 inches of light fluffy powder on the mountain. Everyone scrambled to make first tracks in any powder field they could find. It was a great morning, but by 2:00 in the afternoon, you had to search for the good spots. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how much you like to hike...) the tram had opened for skiing by that time. The tram would take you up to the top of Lone Peak, but you had to hike (or sidestep if on skis) down about 500 ft to get below the rock belt and get to the powder stash. It was a good day. That night, Moguls sponsored a dance at the main lodge for all the schools that came up for National Ski Week. (I think it's just a Moguls promotion) Anyway, there were clubs from Michigan State and Perdue. True to the nature of the day; it was a good night.

January 6th: Everyone's pretty beat today. We had to be checked out of the condos by 10:00 a.m. and the bus wasn't leaving until 5:00. All the good terrain had been mostly skied out the day before, but the groomers did a good job of smoothing out the runs. Most of the day was spent either bashing the fields of moguls that had been formed in the soft snow of the previous day, or cruising down the smooth courderoy runs under the lifts. I had a ride with a friend, so we left pretty early (noon). We broke down on the way back, but that's a completely different story all together. I think the bus made it back around 1:00 in the morning or so...

January 7th: My friends and I made it back...

Well, that's about all that I'm going to write right now. Like I mentioned before, hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures scanned in and present the Big Sky Art Gallery. As always, Wish For Snow...
