 The South Dakota School of Mines & Technologies Solar Motion Team (SMT) is a student led organization whose function is to design, construct and race a car that is completely powered by the sun.
Every aspect of the car’s construction and the team organization is student run.
100% of the funding for this project is raised by the students offering a complete "real world" learning experience.
Our operating budget of $50,000 for design and construction of our new car is not an unachievable goal, provided we have the support of people like you.
Hard work and good engineering is what can make us winners, but financial support is needed to purchase the tools and materials needed to make this dream possible. We currently have raised one third of the funds needed, and with continued support, we hope to be able to meet our financial needs.
We compete against such schools as MIT and Purdue making this an exciting and competitive challenge for everyone involved. Our competitors receive support, both private and public, allowing budgets in excess of ten times our goal. Here at SDSM&T we have been able to stay competitive though dedication and innovation.
