Activity 3 - Project Management and Evaluation

Project Management

The purpose of the project management plan is to insure efficient and effective accomplishment of the Title III Project's goals and objectives to maximize the impact of Title III funding on strengthening SDSM&T's infrastructure.

The Title III Coordinator, Barbara Dolan, is responsible for management of the project under the overall guidance of Dr. Karen Whitehead, Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Coordinator's duties include:

  • Coordination and direction of the implementation of all Title III activities;
  • Coordinating the various aspects fo the Title III projects' activities in order to provide effective implementation fo the objectives at the activity level, and to provide for congruence between institutional goals and priorities and those of the Title III project;
  • Working closely with an External Evaluator and campus assessment experts to assess the progress of the Title III project;
  • Conducting regular meetings as identified in the management protocols with Title III personnel and support staff;
  • Reviewing reports from the Activity Directors and providing feedback;
  • Establishing and maintaining an efficient reporting and documentation system;
  • Assisting in the recruitment of qualified personnel for the various project activities;
  • Providing information about Title III activities to the campus community.

Six Activity Directors, two for Activity 1 and four for Activity II, report directly to the Coordinator and have primary responsibility for accomplishing the the objectives of the activities. They were selected because of administrative responsibility, specific training, experience and expertise. The responsibilities of the six Activity Directors are planning, activity coordination, budget, personnel and reporting to the Coordinator.

Project Evaluation

The evaluation component of the Title III program is comprehensive and includes both formative and summative evaluation methods. The Coordinator is responsible for collecting and analyzing appropriate data. Formative evaluatis include regularly shceduled meetings between the Coordinator and the University Cabinet, the Coordinator and the Vice President, the Coordinator and the Activity Directors and the SIS Planning and Design Team for Activity I. The meetings of these minutes are reviewed for completion of benchmarks identified in the grant activity plan.

Summative, quantitative evaluation measures include analysis of student academic performance and retention, corporate recruitment and resource utilization data.
