Collaboration Over Competition

We offer an impressive list of clubs and organizations, CAMP teams, and extracurricular activities, from the Moonrockers Robotics team to the Concrete Canoe Team to the 3D Print Club. Our teams make a name for themselves around the country and sometimes around the world. In 2018, the school’s Mining & Mucking Team traveled to England where they placed first in the world in the co-ed/mixed division. Our programming team traveled to China that same year to compete in the International Computer Programming Competition (ICPC), where they completed an impressive three problems in this highly competitive competition. Our Moonrockers team traveled to NASA in 2018 and placed 7th in the country in the NASA Robotic Mining Competition.

Maybe you’re more into esports? In 2018, Mines became the first university in the state to create a varsity esports team and an esports certificate program, firmly establishing ourselves at the forefront of a multi-billion dollar industry with job opportunities for its students.

If a club or team isn’t for you, you can still find your place just by living in our residence halls. Our freshmen and sophomore enjoy the opportunity to be part of live-in learning communities based on interests: Outdoor Pursuits, Service First, or Exploring Rapid City.  These communities provide students with common interests to explore together.

If you can’t find a club, team, or group to share your interest, we invite students to start their own clubs. We want you to find your place here at Mines, and we want it to feel like home.
