Electrical Engineering PhD

The PhD program in electrical engineering prepares students for a career in academia or research-focused careers in electrical engineering that support research commercialization prospects, drive innovation, and increase entrepreneurial opportunities.

Expertise and infrastructure at South Dakota Mines support research and innovation in the following areas:

Current research is funded by the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, NASA, and local industries, representing a collaborative environment that aims to solve societal challenges in our nation and world.

Graduates of the PhD program will find job prospects in various industry sectors such as automotive, aerospace, supply chain and transport, oil and gas, energy utilities, information and communications technologies, and infrastructure.

This program provides a balance of coursework and dissertation credits, allowing for a flexible plan of study and ability to develop depth of expertise.
