Research

We demand the impossible, and then we defy it. Our success isn’t just defined by the discoveries we make, but by the risks we take. Others stop at ‘what now.’ We begin at ‘what next.’

This is why research is integral to our mission. It is a path to progress, a means of discovery, and a vehicle of change. Whether our students are addressing the biomaterial needs of tomorrow or improving the manufacturing processes of today, they are developing innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Partnering with other leading universities, research institutes, consortia, and industry worldwide, our students’ trailblazing discoveries and transformative solutions make a real and immediate difference around the globe.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Home to two National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) sites (see below), our department allows you to be directly involved in nanomaterials, biomaterials, and metal alloy research utilizing state-of-art laser processing, friction stir welding, x-ray analysis equipment, and electron microscopes.
