The mining engineering program plays a vital role in the community, gold panning with thousands at Sanford Lab’s annual Neutrino Day and Engineers Week on campus, encouraging the next generation of female engineers at the Women in Science conference, and showcasing mine simulation technology at the state capitol in Pierre. In these and other events, we inform the public about mining and its impact and importance, and broadly encourage interest in science and engineering.
We invite interested high school students to participate in our Mining and Explosives Summer Camp, a week-long camp here at South Dakota Mines that provides an "explosive" introduction to mining and mining education.
The Mining Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc.
