Administration and Oversight of Graduate Education

The distance education master’s programs in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM), Engineering Management (EM), and Mining Engineering (MEM) are offered by South Dakota Mines, which holds regional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

The policies governing these programs are established by the Council of Graduate Education (CGE). Policies of graduate education, including distance programs, are approved by the CGE and submitted to the Faculty Senate for approval and subsequent consideration by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  For more information on the Council of Graduate Education, please go to

Administration and Oversight of Distance Education Graduate Programs

Distance education programs, policies, assessment and improvement are advised by the Distance Education Advisory Committee (DEAC).  The DEAC is advisory to the Council of Graduation Education and the Dean of Graduate Education.  The eight members of the Distance Education Committee are as follows:

  • One representative from each of the distance education programs: CEM, EM and MEM (3 representatives)
  • The Dean of Graduate Education and an additional representative from the Office of Graduate Education (2 representatives)
  • One representative each from Information Technology, Marketing and Communications, and the Office of the Provost (3 representatives)
