What if I can’t get to the library? 

Please e-mail the library. Library staff monitors e-mail 7 days a week – even when the library is closed. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can. 

Looking for information?  The library has thousands of electronic resources. You will need to use VPN to access most of them. Need help? E-mail us

Order material delivered to your inbox. Tipasa is available anytime, anywhere. VPN is not needed for this service.

How do I return library materials? 

a) Drop the items in the Book Return located near the main entrance, OR 
b) Mail the items to: Devereaux Library, SDSM&T, 501 East Saint Joseph St, Rapid City, SD 57701 
Note: Do NOT drop tablet computers in the library book return! Contact ITS for assistance. 

How do I renew materials? 

Sign into Primo, Sign in using your campus email and password. After signing in, click your name and then select “My Loans”. You may choose “renew all” or select a specific item. Some items may be noted as “not renewable” if they have been requested by someone else, are overdue, or have reached maximum renewal. Students must be pre-registered for Summer or Fall 2020 to renew beyond the end the current semester. Email us, for assistance.  

Database Access Points


On Campus and VPN are still available and are the most seamless ways of connecting to library resources. One tip will make VPN work a little more smoothly. Connect to VPN before going to the library page. That gets your device an on campus IP address. Some of access methods will require you to connect on campus or via VPN initially, and many require your browser to accept cookies. We’ve tested them with Firefox and Chrome and we hope they’ll be useful to you. 


  • AGU - Some free access and some open access material. For full access not using VPN you will need to join, there is a cost. 

  • AIP Scitation - some full text, mostly index. Scientists can get full access by registering. . (Connect to the link create an account 

  • American Society for Microbiology – they use cookies, if you have signed in before and allowed cookies you should be able to get in without VPN.

  • Britannica Encyclopedia (enter campus id number when prompted 

  • Compendex/Engineering Village - Go to (You will be prompted to verify access by logging in with your CAMPUS EMAIL then you will be asked to create a password. 

  • EBSCOhost - (Uses cookies. Connect initially via VPN. Next time connect to the link and Click the “EbscoHost web” link. Once you have done that you can access the link without going to VPN first. You must accept cookies.  

  • *IEEE Xplore – Contact for ID and password. *Be aware that at no time is the ID and Password to be shared with anyone. Good for approximately 30 days. Go to and choose personal sign in 

  • Knovel – (Access via VPN and create an account, Login with that account) 

  • Web of Science - (Access via VPN and create an account, Sign in: with that account 

  • Wiley Online Library - If logged in while connected to your campus network,you will have remote access for 60 days. After that you will need to log in using campus network or VPN to log in, to get another 60 days.
