Events and Activities

Throughout the year, pre-health students can attend a variety of workshops, informational sessions, professional development opportunities, discussion panels, and other events hosted by the Student Success Center, student organizations, and off-campus partners, such as Avera Health, the Rapid City Medical Center, Regional Health, Sanford Health, and the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.

Weekly Events

Mystery Case Mondays/Closed Case Fridays: Case studies are posted on The Atrium Monday mornings. The diagnoses are posted on Fridays.

The Weekly Anatomical Language Challenge (WALC): Held Wednesdays during the Fall Semester. Students can take a quiz, climb the leaderboard, and compete for prizes as they put their knowledge of anatomy to the test.

The Weekly Physiology Challenge (WPC): Held Wednesdays during the Spring Semester. Students can collect points on their scorecard, climb the leaderboard, and compete for a free t-shirt as they put their knowledge of physiology to the test.

Grand Rounds at Rapid City Regional Hospital: Held 7:30am-8:30am on Friday mornings. Topics vary each week.

Periodic Events

Mock Entrance Exams: Typically held during the Spring semester to help students prepare for entrance exams. We have hosted mock MCAT exams and will host other mock entrance exams as dictated by student interest.

Informational Sessions: Held at various times throughout the semester to provide students with pre-health relevant information, such as admissions requirements for specific programs or components for successful applications.

Professional Development Workshops: Held at various times throughout the semester to help students grow professionally and develop competencies that will prepare them for professional programs and beyond. 

Study Skills Workshops: Held at various times throughout the semester to teach students how to maximize their studying efficiency. 

Wellness Workshops: Held at various times throughout the semester to help students maintain physical and mental wellness. Previous topics have included dealing with test anxiety and the imposter experience.

Annual Events

Health Professions Week: Held in early November. Provides information about health careers and opportunities for students to interact with local health care professionals. Typically includes speakers, panels, meet-and-greets, a virtual fair, and career exploration information.
