Future Health Science Professionals: A SD Mines Student Organization

The Future Health Science Professionals (FHSP) is a student-run organization committed to providing opportunities for the pre-health community of students on campus and preparing them to be the health care professionals of tomorrow.

The club seeks to create a community for students interested in the health sciences, to encourage volunteer work, to help students prepare for future academic challenges, and to promote personal and professional growth.

Club members are preparing for a range of health science careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, and more.  Members come from all over campus, and all majors are encouraged to join.  The advisor for the club is the Pre-Health Pathways Advisor, who works closely with the FHSP officers to identify and facilitate opportunities for professional growth and development.

Past activities of the FHSP club include:

  • On-campus presentations by community medical and health professionals
  • Panel discussions with medical students from the University of South Dakota (USD)
  • Trips to visit health professions schools or tour facilities in which students can shadow health care professionals
  • Entrance exam study groups and tips
  • Participation in campus-wide events
  • A variety of service projects
  • Social events, such as the annual potluck
