Lisa Carlson

Student Success Center Director

Lisa has worked at SD Mines in various roles, her most recent being the Director of the WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) program. She works in partnership with instructors and faculty advisors in each department to support students through the hardest classes at Mines. She relaunched the WiSE program to support women engineering students on campus, and is taking the concept of a proven program to design a customized approach for students at Mines. Lisa has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Black Hills State University and an MBA from Chadron State College. When she’s not helping students out, she likes hanging out with her three boys and watching cat videos on YouTube.

Tyg Long

Student Success Center Advisor (Freshmen/Sophomore)

Tyg Long joined SD Mines in the fall of 2016. Tyg works with students to put together a game plan for success. Whether you’re looking for some extra help in classes, putting together a day-to-day schedule, or if you need help finding answers to a question when you may not know where to go or who to ask, swing by the SSC and ask for Tyg. When not in his office, Tyg can regularly be found throughout town or at Rapid Creek fly fishing. 

Erica Haller-Stevenson

Pre-Health Pathways Advisor

Erica Haller-Stevenson is the Pre-Health Pathways Advisor. Her role is to assist any student interested in a health profession with the process of applying to professional schools and obtaining real-world observational or work experiences. Erica has a Master of Public Health degree and several years of experience in different public health settings. Prior to her transition to public health, she worked in health care as a physical therapy technician and EMT.

Tom Mahon

Tutoring and Testing Coordinator 

Tom Mahon has been SD Mines Tutoring and Testing Coordinator since 2015.  He contributes his knowledge and support to help students pursue and achieve their academic goals.  Married to SD Mines Dean of Students, Patricia Mahon, he finds himself involved (as an employee or sometimes a conscripted volunteer) in much that goes on here on campus.  Find Tom in the Tech Learning Center, in the garden level of the Devereaux Library.
