Summer Crew Staff 

Summer Crew staff provides maintenance and painting to the residence halls during the summer months. In addition, the summer crew provides support to Summer Conferencing by preparing rooms for summer occupancy. Summer Crew members participate in 24-hour on-call duty rotation all summer. Projects Summer Crew work on include, but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance in all residence halls and apartments
  • Outdoor maintenance and landscaping
  • Cleaning
  • Preparing summer guest housing
  • Painting
  • Assisting as needed throughout Surbeck Center
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
This is a student employment position. Verification of student status is required. Strong teamwork and communication skills are needed. Knowledge of painting and general maintenance is preferred. Summer Crew members must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 20 lbs. Candidates must pass background check to be employed. Employees must be able to work all summer, regular business hours (8am-4:30pm, M-F) and be available for the rotating evening/weekend duty requirement (3-4 weeks on-call work over the summer).

Surbeck Center Desk Staff 

Surbeck Center Desk Staff provides desk coverage in the evenings and weekends during the summer. Desk staff also participate in 24-hour on-call duty rotation all summer. Hours for the desk staff position include weekday late afternoons/evenings (3:30pm-9pm) and weekends (12pm-9pm); desk staff must be able to work the entire summer.  The Surbeck Center Desk Staff position is a part-time position of up to 25 hours per week.  Staff members also participate in 24-hour on-call duty rotation all summer. Click here to review the complete job description.

Surbeck Center Desk Staff duties include,  but are not limited to:

  • Check-In and Check-Out of summer guests
  • Guest satisfaction and complaint resolution
  • Inventory of supplies, check-in/check-out of supplies
  • Management of waivers and occupancy management
  • Sale of summer items, making change, and balancing register
  • Conference room set-ups
  • Assisting as needed throughout Surbeck Center
  • Other duties as assigned

Summer Crew Supervisor 

The Summer Crew Supervisor is a student leader and vital member of the summer housing operation at SD Mines.  The Summer Crew Supervisor provides supervision of 2-4 summer crew employees, supervises maintenance and facilities projects, and provides critical coordination between Facilities, Summer Conferencing, Residence Life, and Summer Crew.  The position is on-call during the evenings and weekends for emergencies and summer housing needs.  The Supervisor lives in provided campus housing for the duration of the summer and is provided a summer meal plan.  

This position schedules staff and work projects, ensures equipment and supplies are ready, maintains quality in all work performed by the summer crew, performs maintenance and custodial functions as needed, fulfills summer housing needs, operates housing key systems, and performs other duties as assigned. 

The Summer Crew Supervisor is a student position.  The student hired must be able to work full-time: May 7, 2018 through August 15, 2018.
