National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
NSBE's mission is to "increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
Our South Dakota Mines NSBE chapter serves as a supportive community for minority students in STEM on campus. Established in 2009, we strive to provide professional enrichment, service outlets, and social support for our members.
Our NSBE chapter provides a wide variety of opportunities to help you achieve your goals in STEM and thrive at South Dakota Mines. These opportunities include:

OBJECTIVES
- Stimulate and develop student interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math)
- Strive to increase the number of minority students studying engineering at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain professional engineering registrations
- Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for African Americans and other minorities in that profession
- Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of African American Engineers
