Career Services

The Career Services at the South Dakota Mines works with students, employers and the community to ensure South Dakota Mines students graduate ready for a rewarding career. South Dakota Mines students are highly sought after due to their professional development and strong academics. Placement percentage includes all graduates from each academic year. Placement percentage includes full-time positions within field of study, graduate school, military service, and graduates that have reported not seeking employment within their field. Graduates who are still looking, or have not respond are counted as not placed.

South Dakota Mines Career Services is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, otherwise known as NACE, the preeminent association dedicated to the advancement of college career services and college talent recruiting programs. As such, NACE has long standing, ethical principles that help to ensure that the recruitment process is fair and equitable and supports informed and responsible decision making. As a member of NACE, South Dakota Mines Career Services adheres to these principles and we expect the employers that use our services to likewise adhere to them.

Employers making employment offers to South Dakota Mines students are asked the review the NACE Position Statement on Setting Reasonable Deadlines for Job Offers.

In accordance with NACE Principles of Professional Conduct, we encourage employers to refrain from any practice that improperly influences and affects job acceptances, including undue time pressures and exploding offers.

While we recognize that employers may have certain restrictions in how flexible they can be, we do encourage them to give students a minimum of two weeks to consider full-time, co-op, and internship offers. Employers that extend offers during Career Fair season are encouraged to leave them open until October 31st in the Fall and March 15th in the spring to minimize retractions or declines after offer acceptance.

For extending an offer after a summer internship program, we encourage employers to give students until October 31st to accept the offer.

All offers for full-time, co-op, or internship employment should be made in writing, either electronic, or hard copy. The start of the offer timeline is defined by the date on the written offer letter.

Notice to Third Party Recruiters, we require all organizations to remain transparent with our institution and with students, and in order to do that, we need to be transparent with the information we share with students so they can make an educated decision regarding the positions they apply to through our Career Services and Handshake.
