Brief Bio
Kellar is the Douglas Fuerstenau Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the SD School of Mines and Technology. He has been on the faculty since 1990, and in 1994 was selected as an National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellow and in 2016 a Distinguished Member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.
Teaching
Kellar’s achievements include novel undergraduate programs that integrate mineral processing, pyrometallurgy and physical metallurgy to support kinesthetic-based curricular development and outreach. Kellar is most proud of the lasting impact he has had on undergraduate education within the mineral industries. These latter accomplishments have been recognized nationally by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, which recognized him as the 2008 South Dakota Professor of the Year. He also received the Benard Ennenga Faculty Award and the SDSMT Presidential Award. In 2015 Kellar was selected as to receive the 2015 Mineral Industry Education Award by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers.
