Estimated Cost Of Attendance Budgets

The Financial Aid Office recognizes that it costs more to attend college than just the direct costs for Tuition/Fees, Room/Board, Books/Supplies and Tablet PC rental. As a result, each year we develop Estimated Cost of Attendance (ECOA) budgets that add Transportation and Miscellaneous Personal Expenses to those estimated standard direct costs.  The exact amount of your ECOA will depend on whether you are attending full or part time, living on or off campus or with your parents and whether you are a graduate or undergraduate student.  Your tuition and fee costs as a more traditional incoming freshman who will be focusing more on their required General Education (GenEd) requirements their first year are likely to be less than estimated.  However, the tuition and fee estimates may be more accurate for incoming freshman who have taken considerable AP courses and/or were dual enrolled high school students taking college courses and so may have already satisfied many of their GenEd requirements and are able to focus more on degree relative courses their first year

The ECOA Budgets are based solely on the educational expenses related to the attendance of the student. Requests for any adjustments to the ECOA Budgets for such things as dependent care expenses (for example, daycare) are made via e-mail to the Financial Aid Office staff at and are reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of the Financial Aid Office professional staff.

The following ECOA Budgets are used by the School of Mines Financial Aid Office for awarding all types of Federal Student Aid (grants, loans and work-study) for the 2019-2020 academic year (August 2019 to May, 2020). Students who wish to be considered for summer Federal Student Aid must contact the Financial Aid Office. The ECOA for summer is based upon the number of summer sessions you are attending and the number of credit hours you will be enrolled in. Therefore, no attempt is made here to provide all possible scenarios for summer.
