Employers from around the nation come to South Dakota Mines for the
university’s biannual Career Fair.
South Dakota
Mines is set to hold its in-person spring Career Fair with more than 170
vendors signed up to take part. The in-person fair is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on
Tuesday, Feb. 7 in the King Center on campus.
“We’re proud that Mines continually hosts some of
the largest career fairs in the entire state. The high demand for our students
indicates the immense value the university provides for the local, state, and
national economy,” says Mines President Jim Rankin.
Vendors and employers at the Spring 2023 Career Fair include B9 Creations,
Black Hills Energy, Bobcat, Cargill, Caterpillar, Coeur Mining, Collins
Aerospace, Daktronics, GE, Garmin, Innovative Systems, Kiewit, Nucor, Omnitech
Inc., Raven, RESPEC, Sioux Steel Company, the US Navy, Vishay, and many more.
These employers come from 34 different states; of the 57 in-state companies
represented, 27 are from the Black Hills.
South Dakota Mines students remain in high demand.
The most current numbers show 97% of recent graduates are employed in their
field of study and have an average starting salary of $68,685. Further, 70% of
Mines students land at least one paid major-related internship before graduation.
Student interns make an average of $20.96 per hour; many students use this
money to offset their tuition. The cost of attending Mines is lower than many
competitors and the university is among the top engineering schools in the
nation.
Media are welcome to attend the event. Note: South
Dakota Mines’ career fairs are open to Mines students and alumni only.
