Mines “Tops Out” Nucor Mineral Industries Building Construction with Final Placement of Steel Beam

The Nucor Mineral Industries Building is now under construction at South Dakota Mines. A Topping Out Ceremony celebrating the placement of the final steel beam will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

The Nucor Mineral Industries Building being constructed on the Mines campus will pass a major milestone at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 with the placement of the final steel beam at the Topping Out Ceremony.

Mines President Jim Rankin and other dignitaries will sign the final steel beam before it is placed on the building by a crane. Nucor Corporation donated the steel for the building as part of the largest corporate gift in university history.

Media are welcome to attend the event beginning at 1 p.m. located outside the construction site in front of the O’Harra Building (Museum of Geology) on the Mines campus.
