Michael Dowding (center), shown
here at the 2017 Denver Comic Con, will return to the event this year with a
presentation on alien life.
RAPID CITY, SD (June 12, 2018) – South Dakota School of
Mines & Technology physics lecturer Michael Dowding will speak
at the 2018
Denver Comic Con on the topic of alien life. Dowding’s
talk begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, in Room 303 of the Colorado
Convention Center.
This educational panel focuses on
the chances of finding extraterrestrial life and the more realistic side of
what that alien life is probably like. “Instead of little green men from Mars,
we are more likely to see find microbial life forms that can exist in the
extreme conditions found on other planets and in outer space,” says Dowding.
Michael
Dowding has been a lecturer in the Physics
Department at SD Mines since 2008. This is his second appearance at
Denver Comic Con. Last year, Dowding and a panel of SD Mines graduate students explored
the boundary between science fiction and science fact in mass
media.
