Mines Forges New Partnership with Mondragón Mexico University

South Dakota Mines is developing a new partnership with Mondragón Mexico University in Querétaro, Mexico.

South Dakota Mines has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Universidad Mondragón, (Mondragón Mexico University) in Querétaro, Mexico. The agreement sets the stage for collaboration between students, faculty, and alumni to partner on academic and economic development pursuits in the areas of science, math, engineering and technology. Initial partnerships will focus on mechatronics, embedded systems and industrial engineering.

This spring, officials with Mondragón Mexico University shared in a series of Zoom talks with South Dakota Mines. Initial presentations included information on the industrial context of the Querétaro region, which includes a wide range of high-tech, auto and aerospace manufacturing facilities. Mondragón Mexico University officials also shared plans for the development of more innovative technology in the region and the trajectory of projects underway by Mondragón engineering alumni.

“We are excited to see the possibilities that can unfold from this collaboration,” says Lance Roberts, Ph.D., South Dakota Mines provost. Like Mines, Universidad Mondragón offers hands-on education as part of a cutting-edge science and engineering curriculum that inspires innovation and entrepreneurship. “This collaboration paves the way for Mines students, alumni and faculty to build relationships that foster academic and economic development opportunities in both Querétaro and here in the Black Hills,” Roberts adds.
