SD Mines Ranks as One of Best Universities for Veterans

RAPID CITY, SD (Dec. 19, 2017) – The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology has been ranked 27th out of 140 four-year universities in the recently released 2018 Military Times Best Colleges listing.

The 2018 Military Times Best list recognizes educational institutions for a commitment to providing quality educational opportunities to America's veterans and military-connected students.

Consistently ranked as a military friendly institution, SD Mines currently enrolls 173 veterans or active duty students. Mines has a 100 percent job placement rate among its veteran graduates. The university offers a comprehensive Veterans Resource Center where students can study and receive tutoring and scholarship assistance, as well as help with resumes, cover letters and academic and life skills.

“At SD Mines, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all of our students. The recognition that we’ve received from the Military Times is an example of how we are striving to meet that goal with our student veterans, as we are all very grateful for their service,” says Philip Hunt, Registrar at SD Mines. “I’d like to thank our dedicated staff across campus and especially in the Admissions Office, the Registrar’s Office and the Veteran’s Resource Center as we could not have received this distinction without their hard work and dedicated support. It’s another great day to be a Hardrocker!”

The eighth annual Military Times Best rankings factor in the results of an annual survey, which is the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement.

The rankings considered an array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to students with military ties.

More than 600 colleges throughout the United States participated in this year’s Military Times Best survey.
