SD Mines holds 176th commencement Dec. 16

RAPID CITY, SD (Dec. 6, 2017) – The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will hold its 176th commencement at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center theater, awarding 188 degrees to students.

Mines alumnus and energy executive Stephen O’Rourke will deliver the commencement address, sharing insight and advice from his career with BHP Billiton, Shell and as founding partner of Strategic Management Partners LLC.

Delivering the senior class representative’s message will be Brenna Mollet, an applied and computational mathematics major from Chanhassen, Minn. Mollet is the 10th person in her extended family to graduate from SD Mines. Mollet has been an active member on the Mines campus and in the Rapid City community, serving as both president and vice president of the Rotaract Club on campus, an assistant area coordinator for Residence Life, an executive team member of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and a member of the Hardrocker Cheer Team. Following graduation, she will begin a job in the Information Technology Leadership Development Program with Travelers Insurance in St. Paul, MN.

Alumni Executive Director Larry Simonson will present five Distinguished Alumni awards to the following graduates who have made tremendous contributions to their professions and communities: Marty Jackley (EE 92), Charles J. “Jerry” Logan (MinE 83), Diana Peninger (ChE 86), Douglas G. Stalheim (MetE 80) and Jacqueline A. Sargent (EE 89).
