SD Mines women take 8th at Regis Golf Invite

LAKEWOOD, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women’s golf team put an identical team score of 367 strokes from Round 1 to Round 2 during the Regis University Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, Colo.

The Lady Hardrockers 36 hole score of 734 put them in eighth place for the tournament. Lewis University (Ill.) won the team title with 638 strokes, Regis ended in second place with 659 and Metro State (Colo.) tied with Colorado Christian for third each posting scores of 683.

The tournament’s overall individual winner went to Rachel Sweeney of Lewis who carded a two-round total of 150. Regis’ Nicole Hulbret came up one stroke short and ended with a 151 for second place.

SD Mines freshman Cassidy Vollmer had the lowest score of the ‘Rockers with a two-day score of 173 (87-86) and finished in 18th place. Sophomore Shelby Allen took a share of 30th place with a185 (98-87), freshman Sydney James put up a 187 (92-95) for 33rd place, sophomore Brigit Kelly was 36th after carding a 192 (92-100) and junior Kaitlyn Pearson rounded out the day in 38th place with a 195 (96-99).

The Lady Hardrockers head back to Colorado next week for the Colorado Mesa Invite April 6-8 at the Golf Club at Redlands Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo.


Day 1 Story

The South Dakota School of Mines women’s golf team had to tolerate cold and windy conditions Monday during the first round of the Regis University Spring Invitational at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, Colo.

The Lady Hardrockers finished the first round in sixth place after carding a team score of 367, edging out Black Hills State by one stroke as the Yellow Jackets sit in seventh (368). Lewis University (Ill.) is the Day 1 leader with 325 strokes, Regis is second with a 335 and Colorado Christian University sits in third with 349 strokes.

Individually, Regis’ Nicole Hulbert leads after the first day after posting a two-over-par 74, Rachel Sweeney of Lewis is second with a 77 and Metro State’s Nathalie Gallacher is one stroke back in third with a 78.

For the Lady Hardrockers, freshman Cassidy Vollmer is in a tie for 13th place after carding an 18-hole score of 87, followed by freshman Sydney James and sophomore Briget Kelly who are both tied for 24th place with scores of 92. Junior Kaitlyn Pearson shares 32nd place after posting a score of 96 and sophomore Shelby Allen rounded out the day in a tie for 26th place with 98 strokes.

The Hardrockers continue the tournament Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Course.
